Caitlin Bunker will again lead the Darebin Falcons into the 2026 VFLW season. Continuing her role as captain with a clear identity, strong connection to the club and a focus on developing those around her.
A respected and consistent leader within the program, Bunker brings a strong understanding of what it means to represent Darebin, both on and off the field.
“I’ve been at the club for three years now, and I’m probably at the later stage of my career, which gives this role even more meaning,” Bunker said.
“I admired Darebin from afar for such a long time. It feels surreal to be finishing my career in a place I aspired to be at when women’s footy was only just gaining the recognition it deserved.”
Her leadership in 2026 is focused on connection, development and setting the group up for sustained success.
“I still feel like I’ve got a lot to give, but I’m also really conscious of what I can pass on,” she said.
“Leadership for me this year is about helping other players find and lean into their own strengths, and setting the group up for what comes next.”
Bunker said the group has a clear identity heading into the season.
“As a team, we want to be team-first, committed, driven and hard to play against,” she said.
“Words like family, community, inclusion and competitiveness really stood out when we spoke about what we want to represent.”
That identity extends beyond performance, with the club’s values remaining central to the program.
“Inclusion is at the heart of this club. We want to create a culture where every player feels safe to be themselves and bring their unique qualities to the team.”
The 2026 squad brings a strong mix of experience and emerging talent, something Bunker believes will drive both performance and growth.
“What excites me most is the direction we’re heading. The young talent coming through is incredible, and you can feel the shift in the game because of players like them.”
“We’ve also got experienced players still in their prime, and I genuinely think some of them are about to play their best footy.”
As she prepares to lead the Falcons into another season, Bunker is also motivated by the opportunity to lead by example beyond football.
“I’m really excited to run out as Captain in front of my daughter, Daisy,” she said.
“I want to make her proud and show her that she can do anything she wants to do, for as long as she wants to do it.”
