935064_1_MThe Youth Girls side took on Wallan this week, with what was bound to be a fierce clash.

R10 – Versus Wallan

It was a wild and windy day at Ford park for the clash against 4th place Wallan. We lost the toss and kicked against a 4 to 6 goal wind. The girls were given instructions to run the footy and keep the ball low into the wind. They did this well keeping Wallan to just one goal while kicking one themselves. This set them up for a big game.

1st Qtr:

Darebin  1.1 – 7

Wallan    1.0 – 6

The second quarter saw the girls attacking well only to have 2. 5 kicked with a strong wind at their backs. Wallan were playing well and kicked a goal against the strong breeze and it was game on. To Wallan’s credit they crowded our forward line and a clean shot at goal was only manufactured when we looked back to a straight running kicker who ran in and kicked rather than the over the shoulder and around the corner kicks.

Half Time:

Darebin  3.6 – 24

Wallan   2.0  – 12

The third quarter was the big one. Our girls not only stopped Wallan from scoring but kicked 2 great goals against a very strong wind. The girls persisted in sharing the footy and played the team style of play that has been so successful and looks great to boot. It was this quarter which saw Ash kick her first goal crumbing a loose ball and coolly kicking it. Special mention to the back line this quarter who were magnificent. Elise was welcomed back at CHB and together with Elena, Issi, Alexis and Gunners they did their job and repelled every attack. Every girl has now kicked a goal which is a testament to their commitment to each other.

3rd Qtr:

Darebin  5.6  – 36

Wallen   2.0  –  12

The last quarter saw some changes made with the girls running hard and putting bodies over the footy with protection from team mates and the score board reflecting this. We rotated a total of 9 girls through the midfield and this helped our run as we ran over a gallant Wallen to win by some 50 odd points. With 8 girls scoring goals and several others kicking points, the spread and versatility will make us hard to beat. Keep up the hard work. There is no doubt our success is from the high attendance at training and the girls willingness to share the footy.

We wish Rechelle all the best as she is representing Victoria in the upcoming U 16 championships over the next couple of weeks over in Perth. Well done Rechelle.

Final Score:

Darebin   10.9 – 69

Wallen      2. 1 – 13
