A very close encounter between Darebin Falcons Division 2 and Warragul United today as both teams slogged it out on the pitch for Round Two of the Women’s State Knockout Cup.

Despite the absence of several key players from the Division 2 side, some Division 3 players stepped up to the plate to give the opposition a run for their money. The first half saw a tremendous, sterling effort from our players, with firing missiles from Sheila towards our front line, manoeuvred by the determination of Julia and the stamina of Erica to attempt to drive the ball into the goal. It was, however, our star left mid, Ange, who surpassed the brilliance of the opposition by scoring a left foot, curved ball, over and above the goalie into the top right hand corner of the goal! Just sensational, giving the Falcons a great chance at clinchingthe second round.

Falcons held their intensity until mid way into the second half after which the endurance of the players began to decline. The opposition was as fierce as ever and what distinguished their performance from the Falcons was their stamina. They scored two quite exceptional goals, one from their ‘lightning’ number 8. Despite Falcons’ various attempts at goal and the tenuous sideline, the Falcons couldn’t quite rise above the opposition to win, although, a very close game. Star performances go to Ange, Immi and Erica!
Well done Falcons!
