Round 11 Kyneton Rangers vs Darebin Falcons

The Falcons Metro team travelled to Kyneton last weekend to take on the Rangers in wet, cold and muddy conditions. Having been beaten 6-2 by Kyneton in their last meeting in the second round of the season, the Falcons Metro team were confident they could put in a good showing. Over the last few rounds the Falcons Metro team has really gelled as a group and improved enormously, playing for one another and really enjoying their soccer. It was with this spirit that the team approached the match and it held them in good stead throughout.

The first half was tight with the Falcons playing the ball around well despite the poor condition of the pitch which was under water in some places. Eliza had the best chance of the half,  making a great run through the Kyneton defence and putting the ball in the back of the net, only to be called offside. The defence of Fiona, Alice and Jas, led by the ever-reliable Eva kept Kyneton out and they never looked like scoring. Both teams went into the break with the scoreline at 0-0.

In second half Miranda showed great skill, beating several players and pulling off a wonderful strike which unfortunately whipped across goal before hitting the far post and bouncing out. Heidi, Staci, Briony, Kate and Kristen worked hard in midfield, pressuring the Kyneton defence and it was Kristen who finally broke the deadlock, scoring with a neat strike into the top of the goal. Ruth was solid in goal all day and did well to notch up the first clean sheet of the season.

It was a hard fought 1-0 victory played with a great spirit and the whole team was deservedly proud of their effort. Next week the Falcons Metro team has a bye.
