Darebin’s Left Back – Emily Cook

Round 12 Darebin Falcons vs Bulleen

Darebin Falcons produced one of their best performances of the Women’s State League Division Two North West season in pushing leaders Bulleen all the way on Sunday.

Having conceded seven goals at Bulleen a few months ago, the Falcons almost pulled off a huge upset in going down 2-1 at Capp Reserve.

In the previous clash, a tiring Darebin had trouble containing their youthful opponents late in the game but, with a fully stocked bench at their disposal this time around, they were able to maintain the pressure.

This unsettled Bulleen and they struggled to play their way through the Falcons’ defence, who gave the visitors’ forwards very little space in which to manoeuvre.

Carmen Sandmann in particular seemed to be everywhere, often putting her body on the line to block shots on goal.

One-nil down at half-time, coach Tracey Hodges opted for five in midfield after the break, which gave Darebin a greater share of possession.

Bulleen netted a snapshot on the hour mark to double their advantage but, with the tireless Carolyn Monk pulling the strings in the middle, the home side were able to produce some pressure of their own.

They were rewarded for their efforts 10 minutes from the end when NiddyieMorgan capped a fantastic display with a well-taken goal but time ran out for the Falcons as they pushed for an equaliser.

With their fixtures against the top two teams now behind them, Darebin can put all their efforts into trying to secure a top-four finish this season.

Darebin Falcons Metro Team had a bye this weekend.
