Darebin Falcons v North Geelong Rnd 15

Round 15 saw our game shifted to the Darebin International Sports Centre as our home ground has been so water logged. The bigger pitch, windy conditions and very high bouncing ball didn’t suit the Falcs at first and it took us a little while to settle into the rhythm of the game. Nth Geelong had some quality build up play and scored early in the first half. The Falcons re grouped with some great interplay between Lucy, Monky and Niddie and when Heather got smashed in the box, we felt certain a penalty would be called and we could even up the score line. Unfortunately the ref waved play on much to the disbelief of new coach Mark watching on the sidelines.

Half time saw the team re group and both teams had some fantastic interchange of passing and some real chances on gaol go unrewarded. As time ticked away the Falcs threw everything at their younger opponents and again some great build up play resulted in a fantastic shot from Heather just scraping the post. Fill in Keeper Ange and subs Nyssa and Irena from Metro all played their part, but it was not to be. The Falcons going down in a hard fought contest 1 nil.

The Nth Geelong coach was amazed at how well the Falcs played given the ladder position, so while the team were disappointed with the result we felt we had actually played pretty well against a team fourth on the ladder. New coach Mark was full of praise for everyone in the team so we are looking forward to a BIG game next week against Yarra Jets.

Darebin Falcons Metropolitan League team had a bye this weekend.
