Round 13 – Darebin Falcons vs Plenty Valley

Darebin Falcons began this week’s match up with Plenty Valley brightly when Miranda Malaniuk took advantage of a scramble in the box and popped the ball in the back of the net inside the first 10 minutes.

Having succumbed 5-0 in their last outing, getting a goal on the board early was a bonus for the Falcons who continued to pass the ball round showing great movement through the midfield with Eliza Eddy and Heidi Fisher causing trouble up front for the Plenty Valley defence. The Falcons were rewarded again when Kate Dullard was brought down just outside the eighteen yard box and sweeper Eva Kotsiras wasted no time in netting one of her trademark free kicks. Plenty Valley fought back and scored just before half time to make it 2-1 going into the break.

The Falcons started well again after half time, pressuring the Plenty Valley defence and forcing an own goal to take the score to 3-1. However fatigue began to show and fourth placed Plenty Valley capitalised, scoring several times in the last half hour to eventually take the game 5-3.

In an unfortunate end to the game, central defender Fiona Carter who had been influential throughout the game, snapped her anterior cruiciate ligament and will miss the rest of the season.  We wish her all the best with her recovery.
