This year, the Falcons VFLW team welcomed former Carlton AFLW player Reni Hicks to the team. Reni has had a great season, proving that she is ready to step into another AFLW team. Reni has shown incredible skill, and determination whilst coming in second on the leaderboard for most tackles in the VFLW. Not only has she averaged 10 tackles her game, she has applied immense pressure on her opponents and winning plenty of contested possessions herself.

We are excited to see what Reni will bring for the rest of 2019 and have some words from our midfield Coach Julia Chiera.

“Reni came to us after two seasons in Carlton’s AFLW program and played her first game for Darebin in Round 2 against Melbourne University. Starting in a backline position, Reni impressed us with her contested work, both on the ground and in the air, as well as her endurance and work ethic, her strength and ball skills, and most importantly her game sense.”

“Promptly following that game Reni was moved into the midfield where she has continued to blossom into a hard-as-nails defensive midfielder. She averages 10 tackles a game and is coming in second in the league for this. Reni is a uniquely coachable player who responds to changes in game plan immediately on-field and has an excellent understanding of strategy and game style that she is able to implement immediately”, says Chiera.

At 20 years of age, with an in-demand skill set, and already having the understanding of the requirements and rigours of AFLW, Reni should be on the radar for list managers around the country.
