The Darebin Falcons are thrilled to announce the appointment of Lachlan Walker as the 2024 VFLW Senior Coach.

With the Falcon’s legacy of strong leadership on and off the field, Walker follows on the heels of previous head coaches –  exemplary communicators and elite program developers, such as club legends Kate Tyndal, Aasta O’Conner and Jane Lange.

The Falcons welcome Walker’s impressive coaching background, particularly women’s football, and are excited about his fresh perspective and a wealth of experience he brings to the team.

I am really looking forward to working with Lache. He is a good fit for our group and aligns well with our club’s culture. I am confident that Lache will have a positive impact and I am excited to see the changes he brings to the VFLW program.

Stephanie Simpson

VFLW Captain

Having served as the Assistant Coach for the North Melbourne Football Club’s VFLW program, Walker has worked closely with the Senior Women’s Coaching staff, contributing to the development of players and enhancing performance.

One of Walker’s notable achievements includes collaborating with the coaching staff to craft an effective team game plan, resulting in remarkable improvements in the North Melbourne VFLW team’s performance during the 2023 season.

Prior to his role at North Melbourne, Walker spent three years as the Head Coach of the Girls Next Generation Academy program at the St Kilda Football Club. His focus on creating a culture of excellence and a fundamentals-based approach prepared players for seamless transitions to higher levels of competition.

Walker’s coaching journey also includes stints at South Metro Junior Football League Interleague programs and Williamstown Football Club, where he gained valuable insights and honed his coaching strategies.

Walker indicated that he is excited about leading the elite program at the Falcons, aware of the Club’s proud history at the highest levels. His understanding of the significance in the Club’s development pathways from auskick, juniors and seniors teams put him above other candidates.

Growing the women’s game is something I’ve dedicated my career to date and working with athletes to achieve their goals really motivates me. Darebin has such a great history of success and I hope to continue to drive for continuous improvement together
