Saturday March 15th saw the Darebin Women’s Sports Club play host to their first International Women’s Day Event. With plenty of hard work and planning by members of the Falcons committee (and extended family), the day went off without a hitch and was a great success.
DWSC president, Julia Chiera, kicked off the day speaking on the topic of Inspiring Change, and specifically about the importance of women’s involvement in sport. Senior AFL Falcons captain Daisy Pearce followed with a personal account of how her life evolved to lead her to become the first number one AFL women’s draft pick. Guests were spoiled with a healthy breakfast to accompany the speeches before heading down the ground to enjoy a morning of sport participation, raffles and a wider community involvement.
The falcons were pleased to share this day with representatives WHIN, Back in Motion, Jetts Northcote, Reagan Milstein Foundation, special guests Enza Barilla and Alex Natoli from the W-league Melbourne Victory, Melbourne Northside Rollers and the Victorian Roller Derby League. All in all a massively successful day, and one to make us all very proud to be falcon women!
