Youth_Girls_2R13 Versus Lalor Stars

On a cold but sunny day we ventured to Barling Reserve to play Lalor Stars who were playing for a finals spot. For only the second time this year we had a bench of ONE! The girls were asked to concentrate on their field kicking and placement. The first quarter was excellent, with our kicking to position so good the game was almost put out of Lalors reach who had no answer to our skill level. With Gunners and Whitty back from their overseas holidays we were better able to use Shan who once again dominated in the air taking a screamer in the last. Gunners also attacking the ball in the air and rucking well, Whitty giving us a target at CHF we looked better in the air and this showed on the score board. We welcomed back Issy and Sarge. Issy held down CHB with great attacks on the ball and good long clearing kicks. Sarge only played a half but showed glimpses of the form we know she can play and kicked one goal and several assists.

Abbs and Danni both played great rolls in the backline and together with Bree who had some good minutes on ball held the opposition to 2 goals!

With Jess coping a minor injury in first couple of minutes her sister grabbed the opportunity on ball and turned in a BOG performance. Together with Phungy and Tina they ran very hard and did not waist the footy to apply enormous midfield pressure. Our forward line of Ruby, Loz, Mei and Sarah enjoyed this and made the most by sharing the ball and applying great pressure every time Lalor tried to clear the ball. We had 6 goal kickers in a low scoring game! That is very hard to shut down. Well done girls.

Jess went back and helped the defenders under the tutelage of our new backline coach Elise (Alice) Casamento. Who (for those who have not heard) badly damaged her knee running for the bus and tripping over her bag. Yes that’s right tripping over her bag! We have found new ways of getting injured this year.

A great win against good opposition. More importantly we are now starting to get players back from injuries and running into form leading up to finals. We need all to come support our girls who are playing main rival St Damiens in the last home & away game at our home ground this Sunday at 10:15am.

Ps- Special thanks to our runner Will, who is sharpening his skills for the finals to give our season runner Tommy a well earned rest.

Final Score:

Darebin: 8.5.  53

Lalor:     2.0.  12
