2010 Victorian Local Government Women’s Charter Award

In November, Darebin Women’s Sports Club received the 2010 Victorian Local Government Women’s Charter Award for the best community organisation in the State. This is a prestigious award, which acknowledges organisation’s that promote women’s equality, participation and leadership. The club was particularly noted for its “innovative leadership”. They were in a strong field of competitors, such as Women’s Health in the West and Women’s Information and Referral Exchange (WIRE), but came home joint winners, which was a big boost for the club – not to mention the $500 prize money. Thanks go to Darebin local council for their nomination. And to cap off a great year, the Club also received a special mention in Parliament by their local member Ms Fiona Richardson who is a keen supporter.
