The Darebin Women’s Sports Club will support the launch of Sports CLUBLINK at our Falcons Fire Fundraiser, 5-8pm, Wednesday, 8th January at A.H. Capp Reserve.

Sports CLUBLINK is a Facebook group that has been established to facilitate linking sports clubs to bushfire affected clubs to assist with raising funds and networking opportunities. More information is attached.

Inspired and coordinated by Sal Rees, Falcon life member and current president of Pascoe Vale Football Club women’s football program, Sports CLUBLINK recognises the vital role sports clubs play in our communities, in particular rural and coastal communities.

As well as the benefits of improving health and well being, sports clubs contibute to the empowerment of individuals and promote the development of inclusive communities. Sports Clubs provide opportunities for social interaction and the social bonds that occur have positive benefits for individuals and communities as a whole.

As Sal says, ‘Rebuilding of communities affected by the bushfires will take a considerable amount of time and Sports Clubs in affected areas will continue to be a focal point for towns rebuilding. Sports CLUBLINK gives sports Clubs across the country a concrete way to buddy up with clubs that have been impacted by the fires, raise money and to help them get back on their feet.’

Sports CLUBLINK will not collect funds, clubs will directly liase with the club that they are supporting. Clubs will be able to share their fundraising ideas to the page and also post fundraising totals. Sports Clubs in affected areas will be able to post details of any assistance that may be needed.
