Division 2 v Brunswick Zebras – Final score 2 – 2

The Division 2 team played away to Brunswick Zebras…this was the first time in a long time that we had been able to field a full squad with 3 subs and we also welcomed Chris Cook to the falcons nest. Chris has been playing indoor soccer with a couple of the Falcons girls and after much persistence it was great to have her join our outdoor ranks…..

Div 2 has struggled with injury and illness for much of this season, but with renewed vigour and commitment we look forward to the second half of the season. This was a game that we were determined to  get a result in and while the Falcs had with wave after wave of attacks it looked like it was going to be one of those days when we just couldn’t score and we got caught on the break by our opponents.. Fortunately Niddie knocked in a cracking goal in the dying minutes of the first half after some great build up play, to bring the score to 2 -1 at half time. The second half, saw the  Falcs really step up the pressure keeping their younger opponents penned into their own half. With many corners almost resulting in goals, it did look like result might slip away, when Nicky Leitch played Lauren Proudfoot through on goal, only for her to be bowled over by a Zebras defender….luckily the Ref awarded the penalty and Lauren calmly smashed the ball into the roof of the net with just 1 minute to play.

It was a great team effort and while it ended in a draw it felt like a win. It just renews the teams determination to get our second win on the board next week.

We play Latrobe Uni away next Sunday and this is a MUST win game for the team. A win would see us out of the relegation battle for the first time this season. Kick off is 11am
