Who Are The Darebin Falcons
For over 35 years, we at the Darebin Falcons have been a pioneering force in women’s Australian rules football, playing a significant role in the development of the AFLW and nurturing female players and coaches. As part of the Darebin Women’s Sports Club, our VFLW team is the heart of a community that supports over 750 girls, women, and gender-diverse members across Aussie rules, soccer, and cricket. We are committed to developing elite athletes while staying true to our core values of community, inclusion, and diversity.
Our VFLW Story
Founded in 1990, the Falcons rose from humble beginnings to become a powerhouse in the Victorian Women’s Football League (VWFL). From 2005 to 2015, Darebin dominated, appearing in every grand final and securing eight premierships. Their success continued with the inception of the VFLW in 2016, where they won the inaugural premiership and another in 2017. The club’s reputation for developing star talent is well-founded, having produced AFLW luminaries such as Daisy Pearce, Katie Brennan, Paxy Paxman and Darcy Vescio, among a long list of other supertstars.
Why We Need Your Help
As the only standalone women’s program in the VFLW, we take pride in our independence, funding ourselves through grants, sponsors, donors, and club memberships. However, the rising costs of running an elite VFLW program, combined with the expansion of our sporting teams, have led us to seek broader support. Accessibility to facilities remains our biggest challenge. Since 2021, we’ve been without a home ground for our VFLW team, forcing us to spend over $30,000 annually on training and gym facilities. This lack of a permanent base hinders our ability to attract sponsorships, host events, and generate revenue, all of which are vital for our financial stability and community engagement.
Join the Flight 2025
The transition to a fully professional environment has been challenging for us at the Falcons. Recent seasons have seen us struggle on the field, especially against AFLW-affiliated teams. However, our resilience and commitment to our core values remain unwavering. In 2024, we found renewed success, winning 5 of our last 7 games and earning impressive individual league accolades, including Most Ruck Hit Outs, Highest Goal Scorer, and Player with the Most Disposals.
We aim to build on this momentum in 2025, developing our players and coaches with the hope of returning to finals contention. Your support is crucial in helping us secure the facilities we need to continue offering opportunities at an elite level. Join us in our journey by contributing to our fundraising efforts.

Tax Deductible Donations
If you’d like to claim a tax deduction for your donation, please visit our fundraising page on the Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) website here. Donations of $2 or more to approved projects are tax-deductible. After donating, you’ll receive an official receipt from the ASF to use in your income tax return.
Fundraising Target & Timeline
If our fundraising target is exceeded, any additional funds will go towards other VFLW program expenses and club initiatives. This campaign may be extended if required.
