The day was finally here. The clash for top of the ladder. Jacana the current dual premiers have taken all before them with a draw the closest anyone has got to them. Our motto today was to earn respect.
The first quarter started as a prize fight with both sides feeling each other out. It wasn’t long before the girls managed a clean passage of play to score our first goal. This was followed by more team work for a second. Jacana then responded with great team work of their own to slot their first. It was game on. The return of our Ruckman Shan gave us first use of the ball which Jess, Rechelle and Mei doing the job on the ground.

The second quarter was a real tussle. Both sides were trying to play their game with only 2 points being scored by Darebin. Our on ballers were magnificent and together with our back line kept Jacana scoreless. The pressure was extreme and the run and carry by both sides was great to watch. Both sides tackled hard, ran hard and
pushed back to support their back men. Even though there was little scoring it was a great contest and enjoyable to watch. The half was closed with a mark of the year nomination by Jess who climbed over the pack to take a screamer.

The third Quarter was a dower struggle with Jacana pushing numbers back into our forward line. This caused us to try and kick goals from far out which resulted in 7 straight points being scored for the quarter. Even though Jacanas tactics slowed us down the ball did not leave our forward line so we stretched the lead to 16 points. The Falcons structure was tested all quarter and it stood up very well as the girls were very diligent and must be rewarded for not losing their cool and remaining focused on the job at hand.

The instructions were to play on at all time in the last. The girls did this and broke the game open with 3 great goals to put the game out of reach. A fantastic effort by all our girls as they over ran Jacana with run and skill to share the ball and win the contested ball. Credit must go to Jacana who played good footy and kept us under pressure all day. This was a great game to be involved in and there was respect earned on the day by both clubs. Well done to all and thanks to all our helpers and supporters.
