When body image activist Taryn Brumfitt posted an unconventional before-and-after photograph in 2013, it was seen by more than 100 million worldwide and sparked an international media frenzy. In her forceful debut, Brumfitt continues her crusade exploring the global issue of body loathing. She travels the world to interview an impressive range of women about their attitudes to their bodies, including: Mia Freedman, the youngest ever editor of the Australian edition of Cosmopolitan; Adelaide researcher Professor Marika Tiggemann; UK talk show host/photographer Amanda de Cadenet; body image blogger Jess Baker (a.k.a. The Militant Baker); and motivational speaker Turia Pitt.

Melbourne City visit

Melbourne City visit to Darebin Falcons

On Tuesday 27th June, two players from Melbourne City A League Team – Dean Bouzanis and Daniel Arzani – visited the Darebin Falcons. Over 60 girls greeted the players and had them sign autographs on whatever they could find – tops, boots, flags, caps, shinguards and even socks. The players then walked around the different training sessions taking place, joining in and posing for photos. Several teams then took part in a coaching clinic run by Melbourne City community coach, Jorge Jero.

FIFA 11+ workshop

FIFA 11+

On June 29th our Under 14s and 16s coaches and several players from these teams, took part in a FIFA11+ training workshop run by the FFV at our home ground.

Female footballers are more susceptible to lower limb injuries (up to 4 times more likely to tear an ACL than males), and the FIFA 11+ is a proven program that prevents injuries in female players.  It works.  Published medical journals and clinical studies have concluded that consistent use of the FIFA 11+ can lead to a 50% reduction in injuries amongst female players.

Look out for the warm-up program being rolled out across our older junior teams!

Soccer Pavilion Upgrade

As many of you will be aware, the soccer pavilion is due to be upgraded this financial year. The new pavilion will have four changerooms, a referee room, a canteen servery from the kitchen, a first aid room and much more. The project is at the Tender stage so we believe it will be unlikely to begin before the end of the 2017 soccer season. Once it’s underway it will take approximately 12 months to complete. If we hear anything more we will let you know as soon as possible!
